So a new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featurette recently hit the web, and in that time, fans have already combed it for the slightest of details. While the fruits of such labors are often minimal in impact, this latest bit of over-speculation may have pulled up something pretty interesting.
I think it goes without saying that the following contains some potentially spoilerific content. If you don’t want Rogue One to be spoiled for you in any fashion, you should probably stop reading.
If you’ll recall, in the first teaser for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we saw the shot above. Most speculation revolved around the hooded figure in the center? Is it Darth Vader or someone else? Since Vader was already confirmed to be in the film, many speculated to be the fallen Jedi himself. But some speculation turned to the object behind the figure, and the folks over at Star Wars News Net speculated that it may, in fact, be a bacta tank.
For those who don’t know, the bacta tank is the thing that Luke floats around in after his Wampa encounter in The Empire Strikes Back. So what does this mean for Rogue One? Enter today’s featurette.
In the background of one of the shots, there was a torso that may look familiar to some fans. Further to the right of that torso was what looks like some concept art renditions of said torso.
Why does this torso look so familiar? Well, it looks like none other than poor Anakin Skywalker’s body following his epic duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
Does this mean we’ll be seeing Vader’s torso floating around some bacta tube? Considering the mask the torso is wearing, it seems possible. Based on one of the Rogue One trailers, we already known that we’ll be seeing Jyn Erso at more than one stage in her life, it’s very possible we’ll be seeing Vader at various stages as well.
But if this is the case, will this end up taking away from the mystery and impact of Vader? I know that I was looking forward to seeing Vader taking on the Rebels in full black regalia, and am not completely sold in incorporating him into the plot in a huge way.
Of course, it’s also possible that this was a nixed aspect of the film, and as such, the illustrious torso may not actually make an appearance in the film.
